Join Mori no Ike from the comfort of your home.

Villagers at a Mori no Ike Virtual Village will live the language and culture of the 127 million people of contemporary Japan — from here, there or anywhere! The course of each day is spent pursuing a series of community and cultural activities—both traditional and modern—including music, fashion, martial arts, traditional arts and anime.

Virtual 1-week programs

  • The 1-week virtual programs will run five days a week for 2.5 hours per day.
  • Each week, villagers will explore a different area of Japan, navigating virtual travel experiences and learning about the history and culture of that area.
  • Villagers will learn about Japanese culture through hands-on activities ranging from traditional to modern.
  • Interactive online social time will provide opportunities to build community in both English and Japanese.
  • Daily small group time will provide a chance for villagers to reflect on and ask questions about what they are learning.

More information on each specific session will be sent to participants before the program begins.

For information on what dates the virtual 1-week programs will run, check our Rates & Dates page.

Virtual Credit Program

Please note: We will not be offering a virtual credit program for summer 2023.

In order to best take advantage of this interactive experience, you will need the resources necessary for e-learning (reliable internet access, a device per villager with a webcam and microphone) and any individual adaptive devices needed; headphones are recommended but not required. Use of Chromebooks is not recommended as villagers cannot access all the features of the Virtual Village platform. As a program of Concordia College, we are coordinating our efforts with the college so that all virtual platforms will have the necessary and appropriate security features to protect the privacy of users, including compliance with FERPA and COPPA.
